Ebook Success - Who is Your Ebook For?

You have a great idea for an eBook. So what's the first step to writing a successful ebook? You must know who you will write your ebook to. Don't know yet? Let's take a look at how to determine who your intended audience is for your ebook.

Before you begin writing an ebook, you should conduct a bit of market research. You need to know if there even is a market for your topic and if so, how many people out there are hungry for the information you can provide them with an ebook.

Here are some quick questions to ask yourself:

  • Who are you writing for? Who will you have in mind as you write your ebook? You aren't just staring at a page with words as you type. Rather, you should have a person in mind as you write. Who is that person? When you can define that single person, you have defined your target market.
  • Is your intended audience open to new thoughts and ideas? We all know there is nothing new under the sun. However, there are some niches in which people are simply not willing to accept fresh ideas. Be certain that your market is ripe and ready to receive your new perspective on an old topic.
  • Will people buy your ebook? Sure, you can spend weeks, or months even, writing an ebook for love or pleasure.

Before you do all that work though, you need to determine whether or not you have a saleable idea. Run your idea by several friends or collegues and see what they think about it. If you think you may have trouble selling it, ask yourself if it's really worth the time and effort writing it.

Each of these points is something you might consider before writing your first ebook.
